Friends of St Owen’s
FoSO is a registered charity (no. 1022947) registered in 1993, and was formed in order:
- to support the work, fabric and development of St Owen’s Church, Bromham.
- to help maintain St Owen’s as a historic site.
- to encourage the involvement of the community with St Owen’s, and vice versa.
Membership of the Friends of St Owen’s is open to anyone with an interest in the Church. Whether your interest stems from a religious faith, a desire to improve the amenities of Bromham, an interest in architecture and ancient buildings, or any other reason, you are sure of a welcome. We ask for a minimum annual membership fee of £5 {which gives you voting rights at the AGM} but practical help in running events and projects is as important as donating money.
FoSO managed the fund raising for the remodelling of the south porch, and the building of the north extension at St Owen’s which was formally opened by the Bishop of Bedford on 26th September 2021. This comprises toilets, kitchen and a large meeting room – “The Fellowship Room”.
The building of the extension follows many years of fund raising from charitable organisations, and most notably through the hard work, dedication and generosity of the local community and congregation.
Local organisations interested in hiring this facility should contact Edward Jones on (01234) 826551
FoSO has also provided:
- the sound system
- the chancel handrail
- the glazed screen between chancel and tower
- cupboards in the tower room
- financial support for churchyard gates, plants and stone walling
Day to day fundraising depends on activities such as:
- Concerts
- Coffee mornings and Open Days
- The 100 club monthly draw: this is open to everyone, contact Francis Bulmer (01234) 602718
- Personal donations
Please contact the membership secretary if you are interested in joining FoSO.
