Announcement from Rev Andrew Tweedy

Most of you already know that I will be getting married in July. Today I have a further announcement which is that Billie and I will be moving on. After a great deal of thought and prayer I have accepted an invitation, subject to formalities, to be the Chaplain of St. George’s Church, Barcelona, pictured left.

There are three reasons behind my decision. These are:

1. Looking at the changes that we have put in place here in Bromham, Oakley and Stagsden, I believe that there is a good platform here for someone else to build on. We are blessed in having a strong leadership team who can carry the work forward through the vacancy and beyond. The congregations of this benefice have been consistently supportive and flexible while I have been here and I know that you will continue to support the Church wardens and leadership team during the vacancy.

2. Having looked at the requirements for the position in Spain, I feel that there is a very close match with what I am able to offer and I have a strong sense of God’s call to work there.

3. Having talked things over with Billie, we feel that it will be easier for our two families if we start our married life somewhere that is new to everyone.

My last Sunday in the benefice will be 1st June. This will then allow time for all the preparations necessary for our wedding and move to Barcelona. Can I take this opportunity to reiterate my invitation to all of you. It would be lovely to see you at St. John’s Church in Carterton on 12th July when Billie and I will be getting married.

The Bishop’s intention is to advertise the vacancy here as soon as I have gone. This means that there will a lot of work and prayer needed in preparing the parish profile and job advertisement. Hopefully, a new Vicar will in place by the end of the year.

After three and half years working with you, I will miss you all. I hope that you can understand my reasons and ask that you pray for Billie and I as we prepare for our marriage and move.
